Open the official tours

The Museo Nacional del Prado offers virtual visits to its collection and a selection of exhibitions. On its website, it explains that high-resolution technology allows appreciating details of some works and that certain tours include audio. The digital offer may change, so it is advisable to consult the official link to see what is available.

These resources allow exploring the museum from home, but they are not a reservation to access the rooms. Furthermore, the Prado warns that the physical location of the works may change and not necessarily coincide with the digital tour.

Choose three observation questions

Instead of trying to cover everything in one session, choose a work and approach the available details. You can carry these three questions as a starting point:

  • What fabric is depicted?
  • How is the posture of a figure constructed?
  • What everyday object catches the eye?

There is no need to reach a definitive answer. The idea is to observe and note what awakens your curiosity, distinguishing that personal impression from what can be documented about the work.

Consult the sheet before interpreting

If you want to identify an object, a material, or any other element, consult the museum's sheet. This way, you can separate documented information from what you are only imagining. The answers that arise from looking are an invitation to explore, not conclusions of art history.

You do not need special equipment or follow a fixed duration. If a work does not offer the level of zoom you are looking for, you can choose another one or continue reading its sheet.

Save a detail for another visit

Along with the link, save a small note with the title of the work, its author, and the question that interested you. This note can serve you to resume it later or to guide a new exploration. The plan does not require completing the entire collection: it is enough to stop at a detail and leave open the possibility of returning.
