Identify what each table measures

A body measurement describes a dimension of the person, such as a circumference. A finished garment measurement describes a dimension of a piece of clothing, taken according to the method indicated by the manufacturer. Although both appear next to sizes, they do not represent the same thing: directly comparing their figures can lead to wrong conclusions.

The UNIQLO US guide recommends consulting both body measurements and garment measurements when selecting a size. It also documents a review of the women's body measurement table from the 2025 autumn and winter collection. The brand clarifies that modifying the measurements indicated in that table does not, in itself, imply that the final dimensions of a garment change. This is information from the US market of UNIQLO, not an equivalence applicable to all brands or markets.

Check units and method

Before comparing, check if the figure corresponds to a full circumference or to a width measured with the garment laid flat. Also review if it is expressed in centimeters or inches and follow the specific instructions of the model sheet. The method and tolerances of that sheet are more important than any shortcut from a general guide.

An isolated figure does not ensure that a garment will be comfortable, have a specific drape, or allow certain mobility. It is also not reliable to transfer a size from one brand to another without comparable data.

Compare with a known garment

You can consult a garment that is already comfortable for you and identify which measurement would be relevant for another purchase. The comparison is only useful if it involves compatible types of measurement and procedures; for example, do not equate a body circumference with a flat garment width as if they were identical magnitudes.

If the data cannot be compared clearly, do not force an equivalence. A size letter also does not define a body type. When the available information does not resolve the doubt, trying on the garment can help you value your own preferences, without the numbers guaranteeing the fit.
